Finally summer begins so you need to prepare your clothes! The more prepared you are the simpler the choices will be. Below is my 5 step guide on how to effectively and quickly clean and simplify your wardrobe:

The best way to do these steps, is by doing them as fast as you can without putting much thought in it, otherwise you get sentimental.

First, take out your clothes, all of them. Then proceed to take out all shoes, bags and accessories. Make it completely empty. Everything you have taken out lay out on the bed, or floor, so you can clearly see what you got.

Category A is called “DEFINITELY”. Category B is called “MAYBE”, and Category C is called “NO CHANCE”. Now create three piles with everything you got. But remember, to make it quick!

Start by sorting this category into items based on type (jackets, sweaters, trousers and shorts skirts and dresses, T-shirts and blouses, shoes, belts, scarves, and other accessories). Recheck the category that everything is a “Definitely” and proceed to hang them in your wardrobe. Do so in a neatly manner, and try to have a colour sequence per type.

Reconsider every piece and put it either in the “DEFINATELY” or “NO CHANCE” piles.

There are three things to do with this category of clothes. Firstly you need to see which ones are in really good condition and these you can either sell or swap them. Secondly, you can find the ones that are still wearable and you can simply donate them for charity to give people in need some much needed clothes. Lastly, find the ones that serve no purpose and take them to the shop or brand you originally purchased them from, or simply bag them and put them in the textile recycling containers.

You are done! Your wardrobe is organized. The best way to do these steps, is by doing them as fast as you can without putting much thought in it, otherwise you get sentimental.

One thing to take away from this is that from now on before you buy any new items for your closet ask yourself:

a. Do I really need it?

b. Who made my clothes?

c. How much did it cost to the environment?

d. What is in my clothes?

Remember: Be socially and environmentally mindful consumers!
